You can informally assess children's skills by reviewing children's work on relevant pages in their Student Books, handwriting sentences they copied during Daily Routines, and especially their own independent Quick Writing.
Model how to apply the skills, using Think-alouds to explain how you know what to do. Regularly point out examples of where the skills have been applied in stories and other materials children read. Be sure to also give children additional practice applying the skills. You’ll find some grammar, usage, and mechanics activities in Ten-Minute Tuck-ins throughout the lessons.
