Review each child's sentences from the daily Handwriting routines every day. Note consistent errors in forming letters or punctuation marks and any problems with spacing. Discuss areas for improvement with the child and reteach as needed. Also encourage children to assess their own handwriting. In sentences they have written, have them check to see which words are written neatly and clearly.
Always have children write with a pencil. Some lessons have children practice handwriting in their student Books. Provide Ice Cream Paper or other handwriting paper for the daily Handwriting routine.
Handwriting lines on Ice Cream Paper, on the White Boards, and in the Student Books are three colors. The lines are named after flavors of ice cream. The strawberry line is on top, the vanilla line is ins the middle, and the chocolate line is on the bottom. The different colored lines help children distinguish between top, middle, and bottom during handwriting practice.
